Soccer boy
Owen had his first Soccer game today. If you inclined to watch this video, he is the long haired guy with #7 on his jersey...oh, he also has ORANGE soccer shoes on.

Sk8ter Boy
Now that the weather is nice, the boys have been itching to get to the skatepark. It use to scare me watching him. Now, I guess my take is that "if he breaks an arm, we are super close to the hospital".
Michigan
On our recent trip to Michigan, Elliott had his first real ice cream cone! He also went in the McDonald play land (aka Bacteria land) and was a true explorer. Here are a few pictures from our time in Michigan with my dad.

We went to the "famous" ice cream parlor(growing up, this place was always packed...not so much anymore).
I thought about ordering the boys a "dare to be Great". 21 scoops of ice cream with every topping you can possibly think of. I guess if you eat the entire thing within an hour *by yourself* you get it free. Lucky you. I decided against it.

Prankster...
For those who know me, you know I LOVE April Fools day! It is my day to shine! Every year, I play jokes on people all day long. Every year, my husband is usually the victim in many of these jokes. This year, I have been planning one out for the last month or so. You see, I found these plastic cups that have teeny bubbles in them. Something like this.
I knew the moment I saw this cup, I was in for a treat. You see, if you drill a hole in one of the bubbles, it isn't noticeable, at all. For the last month, we have been using these cups the "real" way they were made. Then I stepped in on April 1st, 2010. On this particular day, I was meeting a couple of good friends for dinner. I didn't eat with the family. I was a little late for my dinner date because I COULDN'T POSSIBLY LEAVE before the trick was played. So, I sat with the family waiting, and waiting, and waiting for someone to take a drink. 12 minutes into dinner this is what happened.... Keep your eyes on Aaron. Andrew actually drinks before Aaron, but the hole in the cup wasn't completely aligned for anything to happen.

Home projects...
So, we have been doing lots and lots of home improvement projects around here. Last week, we had new counter tops installed. We have yet to put a back splash on. Here they are...
Our dilemma is that now that the new counter tops are on, our vintage stove top looks goofy. We are not sure to replace it with a black stove top or not. We don't want to invest a ton of money into this house before we sell. We are already going to lose money on this bad boy. I mean, the new owners will have a new roof, new furnace, new air conditioning system, and many other smaller updates. So, what are your thoughts on the new stove top. We are OK with buying one, but do you think it would change your mind if you were the buyer?? Another question is that the stove top and the vintage oven match. If we bought a stovetop, will the oven feel lonely?
Currently, we are ripping up the floor in the bathroom to make way for new tile. We had carpet in there for the last 7 years because we thought we had to due to the jacuzzi tub. When we bought the house, our inspector said the motor was underneath the floor and that we had to have access to it in case something broke or leaked. Low and behold, the contractor came in and told us the motor is NOT under the floor. So, the new owners will get a nicely tiled bathroom too.

Easter
I have been busy. I don't have enough time to blog, but planning on catching up today. Forgive me for the multiple posts.
Last Sunday was Easter. We celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ! As posted before, this was a very special time in our home growing up. Some of the things that I grew up are being passed onto my children.. If we are in Michigan, we take our food that we are eating for Easter dinner and have a blessing placed over it and our family. In Columbus, there is not a huge Polish population. I have searched for years for a church that does this, and no luck.
Here is a traditional recipe that is always on our Easter table. I am the only one that eats it, but it is always there. I love it.
Beet and Horseradish Relish (Cwikla)
1 lb. cooked beets ( I use canned beets)
2 TBS horseradish (use more if you like pizazz...I usually use around 1/2 cup!!)
1 tsp. sugar
Mash ingredients with a potato masher until coarse. Serve on your hard boiled egg, kielbasa or ham.
The boys had an Easter egg hunt on Saturday at a local park. It was alot of fun but there were SOOO many kids there. The boys ended up with about 8 eggs each.
On Sunday Morning, we had baskets for the boys and a scavenger hunt. I found this book and LOVE it. It has prepared scavenger hunts for kids. We also had our own little egg hunt in the front yard after church. Since we have a dog now, we didn't want to do it in the back yard due to the dog piles.
The front yard wasn't so exciting, however, we did make it a bit more challenging for them this year. Once they found an egg, they had to run to the corner of the yard and drop it. Basically, they were doing sprints for their eggs that were filled with dimes and quarters.
