American Idol

Well, I haven't really watched American Idol faithfully until this season. I guess I was so nauseated in the evenings, that there was nothing else to do. Each week, I become a better music critic and think I need to be one of the celebrity judges. I tease Aaron because he has become the fashion critic and needs to be a celebrity judge on Americas top model. I feel sorry for our cats on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. What must they think of all of the negativity coming out of our mouths? Well, in addition to being a music critic, I have also become quite good at coming up with what I think each idol looks like. I had a hay day when Amanda Obermeier was in the race. Anyway, here are my thoughts on what the idols look like this week....
yes, I know I made a mistake on Jason Castro's image and said David Castro. I guess he is "forgetable" (as Simon would say) and his real name is easy to erase from my mind. ouch.

I think I am in trouble...

OK. For the past 3 or so months, I have been very nauseated because of the little monster within. I recently started feeling much better and having an appetite again. My doctor said I haven't gained any weight since we found out we were expecting and that I was using my "existing body fat". Yeah, there is alot of that existing stuff just laying around. This week my body started to catch up on lost time. I have had an appetite like there is no tomorrow. I don't think I will have a problem with my doctor telling me to gain some weight. I actually have a booty again...something I lack outside of being pregnant.

Back to reality.

I have been up in Michigan for 3 days visiting my dad. He hasn't let me do a lot of stuff because I guess when you are pregnant, you aren't supposed. haha
It has been a good visit, but I think I should go rescue Aaron from the Lions.

A family's Tough journey

There was a post on our churches website this morning that really cut to my heart. I can't imagine what this family is going through right now. If you feel inclined, will you uphold this family in your prayers? They do not attend our church, but a church close by.

Our Grass.

For some reason, our "grass" is mostly dirt. I was complaining to my dad about this on the phone yesterday and he sent this song to me... It is originally written by Glen Martin, but the more recent version is sung by the great Red Sovine. I think I understand why he sent it to me. It actually made me cry.
Here are the lyrics. I didnt know how to post the song.

On our little girls' third birthday
She got a sandbox in the backyard to play
Sand was everywhere as she played and she laughed
I fussed at her for it killed all my grass.

CHORUS:
It'll come back ...
It'll come back ...
Daddy dont be mad
God and the rain will bring it back.

When our little girl just turned ten
She got a bike to ride with all her friends
She skinned both her knees as she played and she laughed
I fussed at her for it killed all my grass.

When our little girl turned seventeen
We built her a pool in the backyard that spring
All her friends came and they swam and they splashed
I fussed at her for it killed all my grass.

My wife and I sit on the porch all alone
As I look out across at my beautiful lawn
The house is quiet there's no children at play
And I said to my wife

(Spoken:) Honey, if you'll listen real close
You can still hear her say."

It'll come back
It'll come back
Daddy don't be mad
God and the rain will bring it back.

It'll come back
It'll come back
Daddy don't be mad
God and the rain will bring it back.

Things to do...

The list seems never ending. You know those 30 projects that I started from a previous post? Some are actually getting done. I just needed a little warmer weather to accomplish them. Here is what I am working on these days...in no particular order.

1.) Tether ball court for the Boys (almost done, cement needs to set and up goes the ball).
2.) The side garden needed a face lift. I was able to pull out my lavender (wasn't doing so hot), and create a new and improved vegetable and herb garden. The veggie plants will go in as soon as we are frost free.
3.) My coffee table (toxic grout needs to be set..don't worry, it is going to be Aaron's job. I don't want a baby with 4 heads)
4.) The kitchen has been painted by Aaron. We are going to move some cupboards to create more space. New counter tops are in discussion as well. Not necessarily a priority, but something in the making.
5.) Toss some stuff out of this house to make room for a baby.
6.) Continue to work on the boys rooms. They are now roommates, but we need to move Owen's clothes and stuff into their smelly dorm room.
7.) Find some room for all of this baby stuff that a friend gave to us.
8.) Pick up all of the sticks in the backyard. Get the yard in tip top shape for some fun get togethers.
9.) Redo my website...someday.
10.) Get rid of some of this stuff in this house. Hey, wait...did I already say that?
11.) Make a much needed trip up to Michigan to see my family...Long overdue.
12.) Work on Aaron's mom's scrapbook that was started before life got crazy.
13.) Clean out the baby room...remove the carpet to expose the hardwood floors. Once we find out what the lil' monster is, we will plan the decorating. Good thing is that if it is a boy, the room stays the same (transportation theme) and little work for us. Bad thing is that if it is a girl, there is going to be A LOT of money spent on PINK and flowery kinds of things! By the way, we find out May 14th!
14.) Work on the other side garden. For my moms funeral, we gave packets of seeds to everyone to plant in the spring. I purchased way too many seeds and have a bag full of them for a living memorial garden. I need to get those seeds in the ground!
15.) Breathe
16.) Breathe again. ahhhhh
17.) Sleep
18.) Get back to work.

I dont even know my own kids.

Good grief. When posting the picture of "Owen" jumping off the park bench (below), I thought I was actually posting Owens picture. Come to find out, it is Andrew. I never thought it would come to me not recognizing my own kids in photos. I see why my poor mother had doubts when sorting through some of the pictures when we were younger.

I love pictures!

Here are some of my favorites....

(Above) Owen all dressed up for his Christmas "cantata". If you know my Owen, I am sure you are taking note of the untucked shirt and untied shoe. SOOOO Owen.

(Above) Andrew after the burial for our beloved Guinea Pig Stu.

Our official names...

The drum roll please....

Karis-if it is a Girl (my mom's maiden name was spelled Karas)
Elliot-if it is a Boy

Suggestions for middle names now being accepted. Had a strong feeling this morning that I was having a BOY.

Yard Work.

ugh, it is that time of year and as I look out our back window I see branches on the ground, dead patches of grass and bits of paper scattered all over the yard. It was about 55 degrees today, a fairly pleasant day. Despite feeling a little gloomy today, I was able to make it out to clean out my treasured brass fountain. When my mom had knee surgery a few years back, I stayed a week and a half with her helping out with her day to day needs. Of course, when I left to come home, she gave me some money for helping out and for "gas" money. Well, my birthday rolled around and again, my parents gave me money instead of a gift. At that point, I knew that I wanted a fountain for a long time and had my eye on one at Smith and Hawkins. I bought the fountain and I absolutely love it. I am so glad I spent that money on something like that instead of buying things that would have no sentimental value.
I spend 2 hours cleaning it up, reconditioning the pump and watching it flow.
Just beautiful.

My yard still looks like crap. Oh well. Tomorrow is another day.

Here is a cute picture of the boys when we first got the fountain. They pulled up their little lawn chairs and had a few snacks while they just sat there and watched the flow of the water.

Just a coincidence? I don't think so!

Ok, I know this may sound quirky to some of you, but this story is just not a coincidence. I have been so busy to sit an blog, so forgive me that this actually happened a couple of weeks ago.

As many of you may know, we have been looking for some bunk beds. We have been looking around, but no luck. The boys have been sparked by the commercials of a local business that specializes in Bunk Beds..the Bunk and Loft Factory. Of course, we went to the place and these bunk beds are like 7 car payments. We looked and just felt like it was a bit much to spend for a Bunk bed set.

Well, A couple of Sunday's ago, I said a little prayer like "God, I know this sounds silly in compared to all of the things that I could possibly pray for...but hey, I know you hear the simplest of prayers. So, God...we really need a set of bunk beds".

The next day, I found some time to drop some stuff off at the Goodwill. I went into the furniture department and the workers were bringing out all of these boards...then a shelf, then a drawer, and a bunch more boards. I went over and inquired about the pile of wood accumulating. They told me that they thought it was a bunk bed set...BUT THERE WERE SOOOO MANY PIECES AND I FELT A BIT OVERWHELMED TO TRY AND FIGURE WHAT THIS WAS GOING TO LOOK LIKE OR IF ALL OF THE PIECES WERE EVEN THERE. Just then, 4 others came over and started to inquire about the set. The hormones of my pregnancy suddenly kicked in and I told them to basically "back off" until I decided what I was going to do. I can't quite remember if I was nice about it though. So, here I am trying to figure out this pile of wood and almost ready to give up and walk out. This is where the story gets really GOOD! This lady came up to me and of course I thought she was interested in buying it. She told me in her kindest of voice "This is our bed". I then asked her, "Really, did you donate this bed...are all of the pieces here...what does it look like put up?"
She then told me "No, I didn't donate this bed...I AM THE OWNER OF THE BUNK AND LOFT FACTORY!!!!"

HOLY MOLEY! Is she serious?

I really couldn't believe what I heard. She called her husband and gave him the dimensions and he told her what type of bed it was. It was the exact bed that I thought would have been a nice bed for the kids. It was a twin loft, double bed on the bottom "L" shaped bed in Oak. She asked for my email so he could email the directions of how to assemble it. She counted, and all of the pieces were there. She also told me that I would be foolish to not get the bed. In her store, the bed retails for $1,200. This particular bed came with an under the bed drawer and a shelving unit which would be an additional $400.00. I paid a total of $150.00 for the entire thing. I felt the Hot dragon breath of the 4 others as I was paying for the bed...however, the hot air felt good!

God is good and he does answer those little things that we think are minimal. The bed is up and the boys love it. It has been a pirate ship, a dog pound, a resturant, and a sailboat.

Pic coming soon...the boys don't want to peel themselves away from a Sponge Bob Movie.

Heck of a friend!

So, a friend of mine (who is done having children came over tonight and GAVE me all of her baby items. Keep in mind, this stuff is less than 3 years old and is in excellent condition! She bought the best of the best and GAVE it to ME! I am Awe struck because we are totally set on the big purchases for the baby. If we have a girl, she gave me a beautiful bedding set that is soooo girly and very Judyish. I would have totally picked it out myself. She told me "In case you have a boy, I have a boy bedding set too...just let me know". I am just staring at this stuff and cannot believe it. After she left, Aaron came down and said "can there be anybody nicer?". I am totally taking care of her photography sittings! Thank you Carrie and Kevin! You truly blessed us with your generosity and giving hearts!

Oh, I forgot to mention...when she came to the door, she handed me a brand new Boppy pillow and a gift bag full of stuff that she PURCHASED! Like giving us all of this stuff wasn't enough!

I Love My Boys!
