It really is amazing what people say to someone that is not feeling so good about themselves. Most of the things people have said to me are DUH...OBVIOUS enough that I don't need to be told again, and again.
If you meet a pregnant woman in the store, or know of a pregnant woman...please be careful of what you say or act like to them. Here are some things that I have heard in the past 9 months that have really cut to the bone.
1.) When I was about 6 months along someone said..."that is as big as I got at 9 months". My silent, under the breath response was..."and your point is??"
2.) "Your HOW far along?...oh my" My silent response "what the heck is that supposed to mean"
3.) When talking to someone that is expecting, Don't stare at the belly in awe for more than 3 seconds. The feeling is like when a man stares at your chest when talking to you...same feeling. MY FACE IS UP HERE!! TALK TO ME!!
4.) My favorite "Are you SURE you're not having twins" or the other variation "Are you SURE there aren't more than 1 in there". Don't say this especially early on in pregnancy or late pregnancy.
5.) "Your nose is looks pregnant". My silent response "what the heck does a pregnant nose look like?" (I know what this means indirectly-some women gain weight in their face, but it still is weird thing to tell someone). I think this is actually a humorous one.
6.) "WHOA" My silent response is "Hello people, I am not a horse and don't need to be slowed down, I am a 9 month along pregnant lady with a growing person inside of me."
7.) Never say...."I think your due date is WRONG!"
8.) A classic..."You are big." My response...DUH!! Do I need to be reminded?
9.) "Your baby is going to be a 10 pounder". Ok, this one gets me. Lets freak mom out by having her think of what it is going to be like to push a 10 pound baby out of her body. hmmm...not a smart thing to tell someone.
10.) "Awwww, your hormones are so crazy Judy". My silent response "yeah, maybe my hormones are a little out of wack right now, but YOU are just driving me nuts..and I am sorry to tell you, that isn't a hormone issue."
11.) And the best one so far..."hmmmmm, I don't know Judy, I think your doctor is wrong about your due date." I LOVE THAT ONE!!
So, I would love to hear some of the things people have said to you while pregnant. I think at this point, I am just going to start telling people off. I guess I have the excuse of "crazy hormones."
Can you tell I am ready to have this baby?

this is hysterical, judy. i could add a few also...like:
all sentences that start with "WELL, when I was pregnant..."
i hope i never said any of those to you. but if i did...i could also blame it on my 'crazy pregnancy hormones'! :o)
i heard you have dropped?! oohh, maybe my predicted date is a bit too late!
forgot to add that i think you look GREAT & you have such a positive attitude, i was always in awe of it & found inspiration to not be so negative about pregnancy. but everyone should be able to complain a bit when there is a 'leach' sucking life out of your womb... a very cute leach, but still ;o)
Haha..no, usually the comments that really bother me are from people that 1.) I have talked to a couple times in the past year 2.) People in the grocery store who are along side of me picking out their cereal...that I do not know
3.) People who haven't had a baby since 1960 and 4.)People who have been through it and knows how it feels 5.) And people who are like a size -5...
So any commment about looking like a beached whale is not as bad as all the ones in your top ten???
Hey Judy - I love your blog! And I meant what I said the other day -- in your black dress you look very Hollywood-pregnantish-glamorous!!
I thought you looked great!
Aww thanks Karen. I am not really that affected by what people say...honestly. Most of the time, I just let it roll off my shoulders...except beached whale comments. hehehe.
Hey there!
#1- of course you can steal the stuffed animal idea... I probably stole it myself! I wish I would have organized them a bit more to be more similar in size... but at least they are being taken!
#2- you look fabulous! I hope you are enjoying this!
#3- my FIL saying.... "wow, you are bigger than me!" (He is NOT a small person) when I was pregnant about put me over the edge... but my all time favorite was when people would comment on how I'd gained it ALL in my butt (yes, I did, but why point it out???) :)
I totally agree about the "when I was pregnant" comments... people would really freak me out with their horror stories. I was so huge by the end of my pregnancy that no one said ANYTHING... it was like they were afraid to mention how huge I was... that might actually be worse than saying bad comments. I think they thought I would stay that size or something. At least when they're insensitive enough to say something they realize it isn't a permanent state. Does that make sense?
you do look radiant even if you don't feel it. :)
JUDES
YOU LOOK BEAUTIFUL! JUST REMEMBER,
YOUR LITTLE ELLIOTT IS ALMOST HERE. AND NO MATTTER WHAT PEOPLE SAY, IT'S SOOO WORTH IT... THE WHOLE 10 POUNDS AND ALL. (HEHE) I HAD TO THROUGH THAT ONE IN. AND FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT DON'T KNOW ME, ALL 4 OF MINE WERE COW BABYS.
hehe. LUV YA KIDDO XOX
